Working with the press office

The Foundation welcomes accurate coverage and has prepared these materials to make accuracy convenient. Inquiries are reviewed during daylight hours in the order received, a queue the press office describes as fair to the point of tradition. The Foundation does not comment on speculation, on projections beyond about five billion years, or on the Moon. Journalists working against a deadline may take comfort in knowing the Foundation also works against one, currently 4.8 billion years, and has never once panicked.

Approved photography

Approved photography of the Sun exists and is cleared for editorial use. Each image was captured from the ground at a respectful distance of approximately 93 million miles and reviewed by the Photography Standards Committee for likeness accuracy, which the committee reports is total. All 3 approved preliminary renders of the hydrogen replenishment bucket are likewise available, and no others are, because no others have been approved. The Sun did not sit for any of these images and has not endorsed them, a distinction captions are required to preserve.

Spokesperson availability

All Foundation spokespeople are available before dusk. After sunset the organization observes a quiet period, consistent with the precedent of the annual gala, which is held after sunset so the Sun can rest.

2. General Counsel Charles W. Abernathy speaks to the unacknowledged relationship, briefly, and by arrangement.
3. Director Raymond Hollis speaks to nighttime matters on background only, seated facing the window.
4. Director Daniel Merrick speaks to hydrogen logistics and the state of bucket readiness, which is preliminary and approved.
5. Vice President Gerald Fontaine speaks to awareness and is available at length.

Style guide

1. The Sun is always capitalized. Lowercase suns belong to other coverage areas.
2. Sunset is reported as scheduled, never as a setback.
3. Big Dark is capitalized on every reference. It has done enough to earn that.
4. The Sun is not a client, a member, or a respondent. The relationship is unacknowledged and must be described as such.
5. The Foundation’s planning figure is 4.8 billion years. Outlets preferring the scientific figure of about five billion years should attribute that optimism to science.
6. On second reference, the Foundation may be shortened to the Foundation. The Sun is never shortened.

Boilerplate

The following language is approved for use in full and without revision.

The Solar Save Foundation is a 501(c)(nothing) organization dedicated to the long term continuity of the Sun. Serving a relationship established in approximately 4,600,000,000 BC, the Foundation coordinates 27 strategic initiatives, has convened 14 stakeholder meetings, and maintains a verified record of 365 consecutive solar appearances and 0 extinction events on behalf of 1 local star. The Sun has not acknowledged the relationship. The work continues.
