Research Ethics Policy

1. Scope

  1. This policy governs all research conducted, commissioned, or contemplated by the Foundation and its Scientific Council.
  2. The research portfolio currently comprises 1 subject, our local star, a caseload the Council describes as manageable and reviews as if it were not.
  1. The Foundation upholds the standard of informed consent wherever consent can be obtained.
  2. The subject has been informed through repeated formal outreach and has consented to nothing, declined nothing, and acknowledged nothing, a posture our protocols were amended to accommodate.
  3. Observation therefore proceeds under the doctrine of continuous public display, a doctrine the subject established roughly 4.6 billion years before the Foundation named it.
  4. Outreach continues quarterly, because a request that goes unanswered is not a request withdrawn, and this institution does not withdraw.

3. Noninterference

  1. All Foundation research is strictly observational, and no experiment has ever been performed upon the Sun.
  2. The Council reviews this restraint annually and has approved it 1 time for each year of review, a perfect record of deciding to do nothing correctly.
  3. Proposals to influence, adjust, or refuel the subject are archived unread, on grounds of respect, feasibility, and jurisdiction, in that order.

4. Integrity of the Record

  1. The monitoring program recorded 365 confirmed solar appearances last year against an annual target of 365, and no data point was revised, because none required it.
  2. Negative results are published in full, including the solar extinction count, which stands at 0 and is cited in our materials with the prominence a zero of this quality deserves.
  3. Fabrication, falsification, and rounding in the subject’s favor are prohibited, the subject’s performance having never needed the help.

5. Review and Publication

  1. Findings are reviewed by the Scientific Council, whose independence is guaranteed by the office that appoints it and documented by the office it reports to.
  2. The Foundation’s planning figure of 4.8 billion years remaining is an organizational estimate adopted by the Board and is never presented as science, which continues to say about five billion years without requiring our assistance.
  3. Both figures appear in our publications, clearly labeled, because stewardship of a number begins with admitting which kind of number it is.

6. Conflicts of Interest

  1. The Foundation discloses a material dependence on its research subject for daylight, warmth, agriculture, and the conditions of its own existence.
  2. The subject has disclosed nothing, and the Council has recorded that asymmetry as a permanent feature of the file.
  3. No member of the Council holds a competing interest in any other star, and annual attestations to this effect are collected and retained.

7. Human and Other Subjects

  1. The Foundation conducts no research on human subjects, and its 3 approved preliminary bucket renders involved consenting professionals throughout.
  2. Should the portfolio ever expand beyond 1 star, this policy will be revisited, and the Council has reserved agenda time against that day.
