2026 Annual Impact Report
Executive summary
Daylight being delivered to a metropolitan service area, as scheduled, at no charge to the recipient.
The year under review was the most productive in the Foundation’s recorded history, and, by the measures we keep, the Sun’s as well. Every one of the 365 scheduled sunrises was confirmed, logged, and archived, extending the appearance record to a full consecutive year since monitoring began. The Board convened 14 stakeholder meetings, each of which concluded with agreement to convene again, a momentum the Governance Committee asks to be reflected in the minutes. All 27 strategic initiatives advanced at least one phase, and several advanced into phases created for them during the year. The Foundation continued to serve 1 local star, and retention in this category held at 100 percent. Our 501(c)(nothing) standing was maintained without incident, and the fiscal year closed in a position of strength, the Foundation having made no promise it could not defer. Against this record stands the arithmetic that justifies it. The Sun consumed hydrogen every second of the reporting period and replaced none of it. We are proud of the year. We are not reassured by it.
Key findings
- The Sun appeared 365 times against an annual target of 365, a 100 percent performance the Foundation attributes to discipline, both the Sun’s and, in the matter of documentation, its own.
- Zero solar extinction events occurred during the reporting period, preserving a record that dates to the Foundation’s establishment in 4,600,000,000 BC and that no other organization has thought to keep.
- All 27 strategic initiatives remain active, with 3 preliminary bucket renders now formally approved, a milestone the hydrogen replenishment program describes as its most tangible to date.
- The annual gala was again held after sunset so the Sun could rest, and attendance confirmed that commitment to the cause survives even the conditions the cause opposes.
- The Sun did not acknowledge the Foundation’s work at any point during the year, a silence consistent with all prior years and, the Board notes, with greatness.
- The nighttime lobby operated every night of the reporting period without interruption, a finding this report records without further comment and refers to the Big Dark Accountability Project.
