Foundation Calls for Emergency Congressional Hearings on Solar Depletion

ATLANTA, March 17, 2026. The Solar Save Foundation today formally called on Congress to convene emergency hearings on solar depletion, citing a deadline of 4.8 billion years and a legislative calendar that does not mention it. The petition was hand delivered to all 535 congressional offices during daylight hours, for emphasis.

The petition asks Congress to take three actions.

1. Enter each confirmed sunrise into the Congressional Record, formalizing a streak currently maintained by a private foundation at its own initiative.
2. Establish a Select Subcommittee on Solar Continuity with jurisdiction over the daytime.
3. Recognize the Sun’s 4.6 billion years of continuous service by joint resolution, which the Sun would be under no obligation to acknowledge and, on the record to date, would not.

“Congress has convened emergency sessions over matters measured in fiscal quarters,” said Ambassador Charles E. Whitfield, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “Every one of those sessions was held by the light of the institution we are asking it to discuss. We consider that a scheduling courtesy awaiting repayment.”

The Foundation emphasized that its request is procedural rather than financial, and that no appropriation of any kind is sought. “We are not asking Congress to save the Sun,” said Harlan T. Boggs, Director of Governmental Affairs. “We are asking Congress to hold hearings, which our analysis identifies as its core competency.”

The Foundation’s transmittal also documents the opposition’s head start. The nighttime lobby maintains a standing presence in the capital, where it operates roughly half of every day, including federal holidays and both chambers’ recesses.

No hearing has yet been scheduled. The Foundation has nevertheless prepared opening statements for 14 prospective witnesses, several of whom have not yet been identified. The Sun has been offered the opportunity to testify remotely and has not responded.
