1. Lead Story: THE SUN ROSE

The Sun rose this morning at the scheduled time, in the scheduled place, without comment. Confirmation desk staff logged the appearance at first light, initialed the log, and archived it, sustaining a confirmed record of 365 consecutive appearances. President Margaret E. Halloran called the development “consistent with our planning,” a statement the Foundation prepared before the sunrise in order to save time. No response has been received from the Sun, which is standard, and which the Office of Public Awareness continues to characterize as message discipline rather than distance.

The Data Corner is compiled by the confirmation desk and reviewed by the same desk, an efficiency.

3. Supporter Spotlight

This issue recognizes Eleanor V. of Dayton, Ohio, who has attended every Community Dawn Event held in her county and once brought folding chairs for eleven strangers. Eleanor has contributed no money to the Foundation, in full compliance with Foundation policy, and her generosity has therefore been preserved intact, exactly where she keeps it. Asked what the Sun means to her, Eleanor said she had never really thought about it, which Vice President Gerald Fontaine called the exact complacency the Foundation exists to correct, in a tone witnesses described as fond. Eleanor’s watch continues, and the Foundation is honored to document it.

4. Upcoming Observances

1. The daily sunrise, ongoing, attendance optional but noticed.
2. The Aphelion Observance, in July, at which the Foundation acknowledges the Sun’s increased distance without taking it personally.
3. Stakeholder Meeting 15, anticipated, agenda in preliminary review, refreshments ratified.
4. The annual gala, scheduled after sunset as always, so the Sun can rest.

Observances are held whether or not they are observed, which is the discipline that separates an observance from an event.

5. Letters

The Foundation does not solicit letters. One arrived regardless. A reader in Vermont writes, “Is this newsletter necessary? The sun comes up on its own.”

The editors have printed the letter in full, exactly as received, including the lowercase sun. It appears here not as correspondence but as a warning, because this is what complacency looks like when it learns to write. The reader’s question has been referred to the confirmation desk, which responded by confirming the following sunrise, as it will respond to all such questions. The reader remains on the distribution list, where the record can reach them daily. The editors thank the reader, in the sense that institutions thank.
